Walking 

The West End is a lovely place wander by foot. There are a number of walking trails in the area including Botanic Gardens Heritage TrailGlasgow Walking App, Kelvingrove Park Heritage Trail and Mackintosh’s Glasgow

Bike

Glasgow Waterway Loop travels along our local river the Kelvin. 

Glasgow City Council has information on their website detailing cycle routes, parking and other things of use for the cyclist. 

Following the West City Way, you can cycle to Kelvingrove Park from the Central Station on segregated cycle paths. There is bike parking in 14 places along Byres Road, including the corners of Vinicombe Street. Great George Street, Ashton Road and White Street. Nextbike, a cycle scheme with over 30 locations throughout Glasgow, has a station on University Avenue and outside the Botanic Gardens. With Next Bike, you can hire bikes in any hire location.

Subway

Hillhead Subway Station is located at the top of Byres Road and Kelvinhall is right at the very bottom, allowing you easy access to the whole area without having to worry about parking. It takes approximately 10 minutes to travel here from the city centre.

Park & Ride is available at Bridge Street, Kelvinbridge and Shields Road stations, allowing you to park your car all day get a return journey on the subway.

The subway runs from 06:30am to 11:45pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 6:12pm on Sundays (8.30pm festive timetable). Trains run every few minutes during peak times and 6-8 minutes during off-peak. Contact SPT for more information.

Bus

Several buses pass the top end and bottom end of Byres Road. Consult Traveline Scotland’s Journey Planner for a full list of services. Buses generally run later than the subway and allow you to travel beyond central Glasgow.

Train

The closest train stations are Hyndland and Partick. You can walk from Partick to the bottom of Byres Road in about 10 minutes. ScotRail can provide you with train times.

Taxi

There is a taxi rank on Byres Road just outside Hillhead station. Taxi marshalls are in place on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 2am, making it a safe option to travel home after a night out. You can also book a Glasgow Taxi by phoning 0141 429 7070.
