Our final event for this year is a Christmas celebration on 27th November. This will be a free, family-friendly community event on Vinicombe Street; it’s an opportunity to provide Glasgow with a little bit of Christmas spirit now that the George Square festivities are being scaled back.
We will be setting up a stage for an afternoon of Christmas carols and songs, involving local community groups. We have also invited Notre Dame and Hillhead primary schools to take part. The festivities will culminate with the switching on of the lights on the Christmas tree (subject to discussion on location and approval from LES Roads).
Christmas-themed produce and goods will be available through stalls, so we’d like to invite all businesses to get in touch with us if you’d like to take part. BID businesses will be given priority, and outside traders will only be approached if there isn’t sufficient interest among the local shops.
The following weekend, on 3rd December, Small Business Saturday is widely celebrated across the country. We’re looking at producing a booklet with discounts and offers in the small and independent shops on and around Byres Road. The booklet will be handed out on 27th November as part of the Christmas festivities, and will be valid over the next week, encompassing Small Business Saturday. Once again, we’d like to hear from you if you’d like to put a promotion in the booklet.
