City Deal
Glasgow City Council is rebuilding the pavements and installing cycle lanes along the length of Byres Road as part of the City Deal project, with funding from the UK and Scottish Governments.

Phase 1
From Dumbarton Road to Highburgh Road. This has recently been completed.
Phase 2
This began in August 2025.
The works will start at the Highburgh Road junction of Byres Road and will continue North to the Great Western Road junction, and then back down again towards University Avenue
The whole project will take about two years to complete, and will finish with the resurfacing of the whole Northern section of Byres Road in the Summer of 2027.
There is inevitably going to be some disruption, noise and dust flying around, but the important message to everyone is that Byres Road and the Lanes are OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
So come along and support your local businesses.
Regular updates will be posted on this page, look out for details.

Updates
Work to install the new cycle lanes and pavements has now been completed as far as the
junction with Roxburgh Street, which is scheduled to re-open by the end of May
The new bus stop outside Boots is due to be erected shortly and will be brought into use as
soon as possible
Work is now continuing from the corner of Roxburgh Street to the corner of Observatory Road,
and the road will be closed from early June for 4 to 6 weeks. A diversion will be available via Ruthven Street and Saltoun Street.
Work will then continue as far as the corner next to Waitrose, where it is due to be completed
by mid-July.
New parking restrictions are now in force in front of the Hillhead Library for storage of
materials and between Cresswell Street and Great George Street to allow for traffic flow.
In early August, the works will move across the road, starting at the corner of Vinicombe Street
next to the substation, and will then head down the road towards the University Avenue traffic lights.
All businesses in Byres Road and the surrounding streets and lanes will remain open as usual.
